Celebrities

It is amazing sometimes how quickly the time flies. Between children activities and preaching, the end of the week flew by last week. I had what I have to describe as the most interesting experience of my internship at the church on Wednesday.

We have a clothes closet at the church that receives referrals from a parent organization. A lady came in and one of the volunteers walked her to the close closet. About 30 minutes later, I was touring a fellow seminary student on our clothes closet and talked to the volunteers. Turns out that the lady friend who I saw was not a female. She was a he! (No, the picture of Dirk does not apply to this part of my post - see further down) But, the ladies in the clothes closet were astounded because he asked for women's clothes too. He told one of them that he was a drag queen and porn star from Hollywood and needed outfits for work.

Oh my! This is a new one for me. I can just see the byline now - "Wardrobe provided by Presbyterian Church" AHHHH! A true debate on providing for those in need. Where do we draw the line? for me, I think that while I am uncomfortable with a drag queen as a profession, I wouldn't have been nearly as troubled by that without the added 'porn star' as a self-descriptor. however, it was somewhat entertaining to see my and the elder lady volunteers reactions to serving this person in the church.

My other celebrity for the week was much less controversial. I was fortunate enough to get box tickets to the Mav's game versus the Celtcis. What an awesome game! Go Mavs!! On the way into the game, Lance Armstrong held the door for me. Okay - I am pretty stupid and didn't recognize him - probably to his relief. However, he was very polite, and his kids are ultra cute!
